2018 Building Code - Know the changes that will be required in 2022

Speaker: Cindy Davis, Deputy Director Division of Building & Fire Regulations DHCD

Summary: Every three years, the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code is updated with new regulations and mandates. The 2018 building code is currently in effect and will be enforced by code officials beginning in July 2022. Participants will learn about changes to the new building code from senior leadership with the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development who oversee the building code adoption and enforcement programs in Virginia.

A lot of money flows through builder and trade businesses, so it seems like cash flow shouldn't be an issue. But, running short of cash even while running a multi-million-dollar business is one of the most significant stresses for business owners. The stress is genuine when you're wondering how you're going to make payroll next week. 

In this session, we go through step-by-step how to make sure you have the cash you need to run the business.

What you will learn:

  • Why profit and cash flow aren't the same things and how to maximize both
  • How to create cash flow projections so you can predict three, six, and 12 months into the future. We will share a tool for every client.
  • How to set expectations with clients, so you have money you need, when you need it
  • How pricing, materials, labor, and overhead all work together to create cash flow

Blower Door Testing, HERS Rating - Understanding the requirements and benefits of both

Summary: The updated version of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code will require all new homes to pass a blower door test to achieve building envelope tightness of 5 air changes per hour or less.

This session will cover:

  • HBAV resources for blower door testing
  • Information on Dominion Energy Rebate
